Immersed in Hawaii

Punalu'u by Keith Bond, 8 x 10
Since moving to Hawaii, most of the paintings I have done have been plein air (painting on location).
My greatest reason for focusing primarily on plein air is to immerse myself in my new environment - especially the ocean. By strengthening my understanding and love of Hawaii, I am better able to paint Hawaii with the same authenticity that I paint aspens or the rocky mountains.
I am striving to better see, understand, and capture the color, light, and textures of Hawaii - in all its variety - mountains, volcanoes, jungle, desert, and yes, the ocean.
I am selecting only my favorites - the best of the best - to offer for sale. I feel an obligation to my collectors. You deserve to know that you have my best work.
This has always been my way of doing things.
This painting, Punalu'u, has been one of my favorites since painting it several months ago. I haven't offered it for sale before now, because I wasn't sure I wanted to part with it.
Punalu'u Beach is famous for its black sand beach and Hawaiian green sea turtles. I chose to paint this rocky area a short distance away from the beach. I'm more attracted to the rugged shoreline with crashing waves. The force, the power, the majesty of the ocean is better manifest on the rocky shore.
This would be a great painting to add to your collection.
This painting is available to purchase here.
