Studio painting done from quick plein air sketch (for color and value relationships) and photo reference.
Last September Jake Gaedtke, John Taft and I stayed in a friend's cabin in Hahn's Peak Colorado. We woke up to this beautiful view. I did a quick sketch in the other direction of another mountain peak. I used the color and value relationships in that sketch to help develop this scene. I eliminated the other cabins and road in the scene and rearranged a few of the elements to create the mood I wanted.
