Painted from a plein air field study. Waterton National Park, Alberta, Canada. The turquoise color of water is due to the suspended glacial silt in the lake.

To attain this vantage point, I crossed a slippery snow bank and scrambled up a steep rocky slope. The view was breathtaking. The cloud shadows and light patches were fascinating. Also interesting was watching the surface of the water change as the breeze would come and go. One moment the water was still, the next it was dancing with shimmering light. The constant change in light and mood proved challenging, but I was able to capture what fascinated me most.

Each summer during my childhood years were spend in Southern Alberta visiting relatives. An annual trip to Waterton National Park was always on the agenda. Despite the countless times visiting Waterton, this was my first time hiking to this jewel of a lake.
