The painting depicts the South Fork Cache la Poudre River in the mountains near Fort Collins, Colorado. This area is one of my favorite areas to paint. I return to this general area often. This stretch of river is in an small open valley. The river runs through the edge of a grassy meadow with willows, dogwood, and other strubs. The hills surrounding the perimeter of the small valley are covered in pine and aspen forests.
